Multiplier’s integration with Workday enables you to manage the information of employees to run an efficient and accurate payroll in one place.

While Workday has its own PECI Integration, Multiplier integrates with Workday using API.

PECI (Payroll Effective Change Interface) is a Workday integration that was introduced in 2016. PECI also transmits each payroll change for each worker sequentially and includes the effective date and data entry date for each change.

Workday also has various APIs that allow payroll partners to integrate in many capacities for multiple use cases based on their business needs.

Here’s how Multiplier’s API Integration allows for simplified, faster, and flexible integration with Workday instead of their PECI Integration.

PECI (SFTP)

API

This integration includes Workday to drop a file (XML) to your payroll partner/vendor as a one-way communication.

API is a two-way communication between your system and payroll system. This way the payroll system can request data faster (every 6 hours) by triggering the APIs

This requires an initial setup by you. It includes a list of fields that need to be shared in the file, defining the frequency of sync with Workday and a few filters to provide limited data

You only need to share the API key with the payroll system(in this case Multiplier). You can choose which data should be synced by granting permissions within Workday. For eg: Compensation data

In case of any change in the format, information needed, sync frequency etc, you are required to reach out to your payroll partner to update the configuration or give measurements manually. This is time-consuming and could be an exercise you must do multiple times.

Flexibility - The payroll vendor will handle any changes by modifying the API logic without any intervention required from the client

PECI is a one-way outbound connection. This means that information cannot be relayed back to Workday from the payroll vendor.

For eg: Using PECI, Multiplier can not sync the payslips back to the Workday.

Multiplier can write the data back to Workday with the same API keys. For eg: Payslips.

Data sync will be done periodically based on the frequency set in Workday for the PECI file. To run manual sync, you have to go to Workday and initiate the file transfer.

Manual data syncs can be triggered from the Multiplier platform whenever you need it.

PECI is a full-stack integration that provides all the changes between 2 consecutive syncs. This may not be of high relevance for the payroll partner and consumes time to update that information.

Web services API is a top-of-the-stack integration that provides only the latest change between 2 consecutive syncs. This ensures you focus on the most relevant and latest information, and process payroll accurately.

Conclusion

  • API integration is supported by Multiplier, which means it requires no additional development effort on your end to set it up.

  • While PECI and API provide the same data, APIs can support a higher frequency of data sync.

  • It is easier to set up API support in Workday on your tenant. Workday handles all security aspects.
