FAQs - ACH direct debit setup and payments
ACH direct debit setup
I haven't received an email to sign the ACH agreement. Where should I check?
If you have not received the ACH agreement from Multiplier, check your spam folder. If you still don’t see it, kindly contact your dedicated CSM.
Why did my ACH Direct Debit setup fail?
There could be a few reasons why your ACH Direct Debit setup has failed:
Your Account number or Routing number was incorrectly added
Your bank has rejected the setup transaction
In either case, our team will reach out to you for the next steps, or you can also write to us at [email protected] for any queries you may have.
Why does Plaid request access to my account balance and transaction history?
When you connect your bank account through Plaid, you may notice it asking for access to your account balance, posted transactions, and pending transactions. We understand this might seem like a lot, so here’s why this access is needed:
1. Account Verification
Plaid helps us confirm that the account is valid and belongs to you, ensuring that payments are securely and correctly set up.
2. Preventing Failed Payments
Plaid may check your current balance to help prevent payment failures due to insufficient funds.
3. Fraud Protection
Reviewing recent transactions is a standard security measure to ensure your account hasn’t been compromised and is being accessed with your explicit consent.
4. Trusted, Secure Integration
Plaid is widely used by platforms like Stripe, Venmo, and Robinhood—which is why we chose it. Your data is encrypted end-to-end. Multiplier does not store or use your transaction data beyond what's necessary for verifying your account for ACH direct debit setup.
How much time does it take to enable ACH Direct Debit for payments?
To enable ACH Direct Debit for your business, there are two steps:
Direct Debit Setup: The setup can be done from your Settings option by following simple steps. An agreement will be sent once all the relevant documents have been uploaded and details confirmed. Once the client signs, our team will verify the same and validate whether any Debit Blocks that prevent direct debits from happening are present by submitting a zero-dollar payment request.
The timeline here will depend on when the client signs the agreement + 2-3 business days for a zero-dollar payment request.
Direct Debit Payments: Once the setup is complete, you can initiate payments from the Invoice Payments module on the Multiplier platform.
The timeline is 3-5 business days for funds settlement and payment reconciliation.
How long does it take for the invoices to be marked as paid once I have initiated the payment?
Once the direct debit setup is complete, you must initiate direct debit payments from the Invoice Payments module on the platform.
The timeline is 3-5 business days for funds settlement and payment reconciliation.
What should I do when the payment fails after initiating the payment via Direct Debit?
If the payment fails, contact your CSM or email us at [email protected].
Why can’t I see Direct Debit as a payment method?
ACH Direct Debit only supports if your bank account is in the United States and your billing currency is USD. If your bank is outside the United States, likely, you will not see the setup option.
Additionally, our network covers most major banks. But if you don't see your bank, please contact [email protected].
Why can't I see my bank on the Plaid Verification List?
A possible reason could be that your bank does not integrate with the NACHA-preferred Plaid verification integration.
If Plaid does not support your bank, please raise a support request with the information below
The Latest Bank Statement details, the Account numbers, and the Owner.
Government ID proof of the point of contact
Once our team verifies this internally, they will help you with the next steps for setting up ACH DD on the platform.
Automatic Debit
Does Multiplier support automatic direct debits?
Yes, Multiplier supports ACH automatic direct debits in the United States of America.
What are the timelines for automatic debit?
Email notification: You will be notified about the upcoming automatic debit 5 days before the invoice due date.
Actual debit: Multiplier will initiate a direct debit from your signed bank account 2 days before the invoice due date.
When can I disable automatic debit?
You can disable the automatic debit option anytime in the month. Once done, it will apply to any future pending invoices, i.e., while disabling automatic debit, if any invoices are in the Processing stage, they will continue to be debited.
Is automatic debit enabled for all invoice payments?
Yes, once you have set up the ACH Direct Debit payment method, all invoice payments will be automated, provided the invoice follows the default payment terms of 7 days.
How to cancel invoices that are scheduled for automatic debits?
You cannot cancel invoices scheduled for automatic debits. If you have any questions about invoice details like amount or fees, you can raise a query, which will pause automatic debit for that particular invoice. Learn more here.
Why was the invoice payment not automatically debited?
There could be multiple reasons why invoice payments are not auto-debited:
The invoices are created ad-hoc with payment terms less than the standard payment terms of 7 days. This will ensure that payments are not initiated automatically without an email notification of upcoming direct debits. In such cases, you can initiate payments from the platform.
You may have placed a debit block in your bank account. In this case, auto-debit will start working once you remove the block.
