The I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification is a mandatory process used to verify your identity and authorization to work in the United States. ## Find the onboarding email

Once you have finalized your onboarding on the platform, which includes providing and confirming your personal details (such as full legal name, date of birth, address, and ID), legal status (like citizenship or work authorization), and bank information for payroll, and uploading all necessary documents, you will receive an email. This email, titled Action Required: Submit Your Payroll & Compliance Forms, will outline the subsequent compliance requirements, specifically how to complete the I-9 form.

## Complete section 1 of the I-9 Form

Section 1 of the I-9 form is to completed by the employee. It captures essential information about your identity and work authorization. Accuracy is crucial, as any mismatch with your supporting documents can delay verification. You can fill out this section digitally on the platform or print it and complete it manually.

When filling Section 1, you must provide your full legal name, date of birth, current address, and Social Security number (if applicable). Ensure all information matches your official documents exactly. Any variations, such as nicknames or abbreviations, can cause delays or require resubmission.

### Select your citizenship or immigration status

In this section, you are asked to indicate your status in the United States. You must select one of the following options:

* U.S. Citizen – Individuals born in the U.S. or naturalized citizens.
* Non-citizen National of the U.S. – Individuals who owe permanent allegiance to the U.S. but are not citizens.
* Lawful Permanent Resident – Individuals with a Green Card. You will need to provide your Alien Registration Number or USCIS Number.
* Noncitizen authorized to work – Individuals with a valid work authorization (such as an Employment Authorization Document, visa permitting work, or other USCIS-approved documents). You will need to provide the work authorization number and its expiration date.

If you are unsure which option applies to you, refer to the official[ USCIS I-9 guidance](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central) for detailed explanations.

### Prepare documents required for Verification

After completing Section 1, you must prepare the original documents required to verify your identity and employment eligibility. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security categorizes these documents into three lists on the official I-9 form: List A, List B, and List C.

* **List A:** Documents that establish both identity and work authorization\
  You only need one document from this list, which proves both who you are and that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Documents include:
* U.S. Passport or Passport Card
* Permanent Resident Card (Green Card, Form I-551)
* Employment Authorization Document (EAD, Form I-766)
* **List B:** Documents that establish identity only\
  If you do not have a List A document, you must provide one document from List B to prove your identity. Documents include:
* Driver’s license or state-issued ID card
* ID card issued by federal, state, or local government
* School ID with a photograph
* Voter’s registration card
* **List C:** Documents that establish work authorization only\
  Along with a List B document, you must provide one document from List C to prove your authorization to work. Documents include:
* Social Security card (unless it states “not valid for employment”)
* U.S. birth certificate
* Certificate of Citizenship (Form N-560 or N-561)
* Certificate of Naturalization (Form N-550 or N-570)

**Key Rule:** You can either provide one List A document, which covers both identity and work authorization, or one List B document combined with one List C document. All documents must be original, valid, and unexpired, and the details must exactly match those entered in Section 1 of the I-9 form. Photocopies are not accepted.

For more details and examples of acceptable documents, you can visit the official USCIS page:[ USCIS I-9 Acceptable Documents](https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/form-i-9-acceptable-documents).

### Practical Tips for Section 1

* Double-check spellings, dates, and numbers against your official documents before submitting.
* Use the digital version if possible, as it reduces errors and speeds up verification.
* Keep your documents ready for Section 2 verification — your Onboarding Agent will need to see them in their original form.
* If you have multiple forms of work authorization, select the status that matches your longest-term or permanent authorization and provide the corresponding document.

By carefully completing Section 1 and preparing the correct documents, you help ensure that your I-9 verification proceeds smoothly without delays.

## Section 2 (Employer Section)

Section 2 of the I-9 form will be completed by the employer (Multiplier). No action is required from the employee.

### Upload and submit the Form

Once Section 1 is complete, upload the I-9 form in the Country Forms section on the platform. Upload any additional required documents and click Submit Documents. You will receive a confirmation email once your submission is successful.

### Share your availability for verification

After submitting your documents, share your availability for the I-9 verification call within three days of your start date. Your Onboarding Agent will email you with an introductory message explaining the process and next steps. You can reply to the same email thread to share your available time slots. Your Onboarding Agent will confirm the call based on the time you provide.

### Attend the Verification Call

During the verification call, ensure your camera is turned on and present the original documents you submitted. Make sure expiration dates are clearly visible, and be prepared to verbally confirm details such as the expiration date if asked.

### Verification Completion

Once the verification process is complete, the onboarding team will review your information and inform you of your verification status. After successful verification, your profile will be activated, and your onboarding process will proceed further.

### Need Help?

If you are unable to connect with your onboarding agent, write an email to <support@usemultiplier.com> with your availability. The team will coordinate internally, and a customer support person will reach out to assist you promptly.
